We have all heard “you are what you eat”, well, health nutrients can make you naturally healthy and strong and everybody should include them in their diet.

Did you know that there are certain natural plant foods that contain more protein than beef, more calcium than milk and more vitamin C than citrus fruits? You can boost your body with vitamins and minerals, reduce your cholesterol, purify your blood and strengthen your immune system – all naturally

Today’s modern diet contains far too much refined sugars and grains with almost no vitamins or minerals left, we consume saturated fats, trans fats and hydrogenated fat, convenience foods that are depriving us of health and slowly taking us along the road of high cholesterol, heart disease and cancer. A healthy well balanced diet can work wonders, however there are certain super, health boosting nutritious foods than can really powerfully assist in your search for general and heart health.

The A-Z of Some Super Health Nutrients

Using the term Super Health Nutrients sounds somewhat strange, an exaggeration, especially in today’s world of hype and false promises. However there are certain healthy foods, some well know others less so, that are nothing else but super. Let’s look at some of the main points of interest with some of these foods:

  • 11 times more calcium than cow’s milk
  • 7 times as much vitamin C than oranges
  • 5 times the iron content that spinach has
  • 60 percent protein with a better amino acid profile than beef or soya beans
  • Reduce cholesterol and prevent hardening of the arteries, thus reducing risk of heart attack and stroke
  • purify the blood, improve memory and strengthen the immune system

  • Now that is a rather impressive list of benefits, but sadly I am not talking of one single wonder food. However, all of the above, plus numerous other advantages, can be found in three or four foods. Below you will find a list of some of the more popular healthy nutritious products together with some of their advantages. Perhaps you might like to do more research on Google or Yahoo! Before stocking up, but I can assure you that your money won’t be wasted, especially if you add these foods to an already healthy diet.

    Alfalfa
Alfalfa contains almost all the vitamins known to man, as well as minerals. In fact it has more calcium than perhaps any other food and four times the vitamin C of citrus fruit. It provides a host of digestive enzymes, flavenoids, and amino-acids. It helps to purify the blood and aids in weight loss and rejuvenates the immune system.

    Chlorella
Clorella is not so well know, but it is truly a wonderful health enriching food. Chlorella is a fresh water algae that is packed with nutrients, such as protein, B12, zinc, iron, and essential fatty acids. According to research studies, this algae is able to reduce cholesterol and prevents the hardening of the arteries and should be on your shopping list if you are looking for heart health. Laboratory experiments have shown that regular use of chlorella reduces high blood pressure and prevents strokes in rats. Chlorella is a powerful detoxification aid for heavy metals and other pesticides.

    Spirulina
Spirulina is another algae that is cultivated and farmed in hot countries. It is a micro-algae that has perhaps the richest protein content of all natural foods, containing 60 – 70% protein (meat contains approximately 25%). It has been associated with blood sugar control and is useful if you are trying to lose weight. Spirulina beta carotene is ten times more concentrated than carrots. Published scientific studies with men in Japan and India have provided evidence that several grams of spirulina daily can lower cholesterol. The studies suggest that spirulina is able to act upon and reduce the “bad” LDL cholesterol and raise the “good” HDL cholesterol. Human studies in Germany and India found a weight reduction effect along with cholesterol reduction. All these studies indicate spirulina is a useful supplement for cardiovascular health and for lowering cholesterol. Spirulina can be found at your local health food store in the form of powder, capsules or in tablet form.

    Green Barley Grass
Apart from vitamin D, green barley grass contains almost every nutrient that our body needs; it is a complete food that is easy to digest. Contains much more vitamins and minerals than vegetables, it has as much protein as meat and 11 times more calcium than milk, 5 times more iron than spinach and 7 times more vitamin C than orange juice. Barley grass is particularly beneficial to the heart, lungs and arteries and also helps to reduce cholesterol

There are several other health nutrients, however, perhaps the above are those more indicated in the battle against heart disease.
